Leucine being an essential amino acid can not be produced by the human body so it needs to be taken as a supplement or through food ingestion. Leucine has shown the ability to increase protein synthesis and decrease protein degradation especially when taken after an endurance exercise. Leucine is used by muscles as a fuel energy source during exercise. when combined with other BCAA (Branch chain amino acids) the combo may accelerate muscle gains.
