Pomegranate Everything, Pimpin the Pom.
Wow, when something old is discovered to have some kind of health value, every marketing firm around the world jumps on the wagon. Pomegranates have a high antioxidant value and taste…well, they taste ok. I wouldn’t say they are the best tasting fruit out there but they don’t taste bad.
The point I’m getting to, is once something like this is discovered its pimped out to just about every type of food stuff you see on the shelf at a supermarket. The latest I saw was pomegranate martini mix. They have gone so far as to try to make alcoholic beverages healthy. I guess if your going to throw mass quantities of alcohol down your gullet you might as well make them healthy.
This type of marketing can take away from the actual health value of just about anything. Once people start to see everything with pomegranate they start to think that it’s a scam to get them to buy something with their health in mind. Not to mention that a lot of these products have probably lost the health value of the pomegranate during processing. If there is a pomegranate product out there that I would suggest is either POM, pomegranate juice or a fresh pomegranate. Beyond that you don’t really know what your getting when you buy other processed products.
