Holiday Guilt
To most people, the holiday season is looked forward to for a time off from work, time spent with the family, food and relaxing. I like all those things but there comes a price to pay for the enjoyment of it all. Guilt!
Sure I enjoy it all too, but it’s hard to be disciplined around all of this. Vacation and relaxing also brings eating. Between leftovers and boredom, it’s hard not to eat. The time off can be a blessing if you feel like exercising on your off time. I haven’t felt like it at all. I planned on taking it easy while at home and not eating too much and taking advantage of the time off to catch up on some lost workout time…but to be honest I’ve been lazy. I plan on forcing myself to get in there and work out for an hour this afternoon, but it’s not going to be easy.
Time off and relaxing can also bring some mental stress. Unless your life is perfect your mind has a tendency to wander and think of the upcoming year, bills, and everything that you’ve been too busy to think about that normally would have you losing sleep. We all have these problems and the only thing you can really do to work through them is occupy your mind or take care of them as they come.
I’m supposed to be off until next wednesday but I think I may go help out in the distribution center tomorrow just so I don’t go out of my mind with cabin fever. Besides, I’m sure they could use the help and I’m getting paid anyway over vacation so it looks good to the boss if I help out without being asked.
It’s been nice spending the time at home and I enjoyed the kids and wife opening gifts yesterday, but I’m ready for this year to be over with already. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas, if you celebrated, and I’m looking forward to 2008.
