Aspartame, Body Building Supplements And What You Need To Know!

by Scott on February 24th, 2008

I will admit that I have always been one to brush off any talk about Aspartame being dangerous. Aspartame, in case you don’t know is an artificial sweetener that is in just about everything that is sugar free or “Diet”. It has been scrutinized since it’s arrival that it can be dangerous and cause various  problems in the human body.

Now if you take any Muscletech products and you look on the back of the label you will see a small advisory (not really a warning) that the product contains Contains Phenylalanine. Phenylalanine is a derivative of Aspartame. Other supplements won’t even say anything at all about Aspartame. If it’s sweet and there isn’t any sugar in it, then chances are it’s sweetened with aspartame or sucralose (Which isn’t 100% safe either) Look for supplements that are Aspartame Free

PHENYLALANINE,  50% of the aspartame molecule is isolated from the chain of amino acids with which it exists in nature.  Isolated phenylalanine, neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D.  tells us crosses the blood brain barrier to interfere and kill the neurotransmitters of the brain by “exciting them to death.”  (“Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills”)

Right about now your probably thinking, “Come on, how bad could this stuff be?”. Well if you really want to know there is a great article and link over at Genetics and Health that will tell you about the suspected dangers of Aspartame and some chilling facts that will make you think twice before you pick up that Diet soda or chew that sugar free gum. On another note, check the labels of the drinks and snacks you feeding your children.

Now I know I’m not the first to speak out about Aspartame in Supplements, I just want to push the issue to others and stop blowing it off as hear-say.Here are a few links to get yourself more acquainted with Aspartame.

    Hi Scott!

Thanks for the link. The more I read about Aspartame the more scary it becomes. Back in the early 1980s in my ‘geeky’ days my experiments showed that Nutrasweet was highly carcinogenic even in low doses. Now we’re regularly pumping it into our bodies ‘in the name of health’. Hmmm!

I have also heard a lot of back and forth on this, thanks for providing the links so I can really learn more about this. Do you know if Splenda is aspartame based or any other sweeteners that aren’t?

Splenda is not Aspartame but Sucralose, Follow the link in the second paragraph.

I’m not sure about any other artificial sweetener that are not aspartame based.
