Hugh Jackman. You’ve seen him in the movies. X-Men (1,2,&3), Swordfish, and Van Helsing, just to name a few. There is no doubt that he has to stay in good shape for the roles he plays from super heroes to fictitious vampire hunters. IN the 2006 June edition of Men’s Health Magazine, Mike Zimmerman did a piece on the Australian actor. At 6′3″ and a lean 210 lbs (Est. Google search weight) , Hugh was benching 315 and leg pressing 1000 lbs in preparation for his role in X-men 3. Here are a few quotes from the article.

“I don’t set goals for myself,” he says. “in this country, people are all about goal setting. And I concede, to a point, how it can help you get going. But we limit ourselves with goals. We have far more ability than we give ourselves credit for.”

“For Wolverine, I ramp it up,” He says. “I do an hour and a half a day in the gym and eat a thousand calories more a day than I would normally. And I train really hard. I crank up the Godsmack and Metallica. I yell and scream, which helps me get into the character and have a bitch of a workout.”

Like I said in yesterdays introduction, that there is no doubt that celebrities getting in shape for a role have a personal trainer and perhaps a nutritionist or even a personal chef that helps them along in getting prepared for the role. He doesn’t mention anything in the article about his diet besides where he mention 1000 more calories a day and I’m sure that not 2 Big Macs.

The fact is that acting is a job just like any other. You have to work hard to be good at it and to please “the bosses”. If you don’t do these things and build a reputation for yourself, chances are you won’t be asked back for a repeat at the role and future recommendations will be few and far between.

Hugh credits his success in his workout to “Brain power”. I like his idea of not setting goals because you set a limitations for yourself. I always like to set a goal and try to exceed it. And if you exceed it then exceed that! Sometimes you’d be surprised at what you can do when you put your mind to it.
