Like That Green Tea Do Ya?
One of the big health trends to pop up in the last few years is green tea. When they started saying that teas were good because they were high in Antioxidants, the marketing strategists jumped on it like they jump on everything else that is suddenly deemed healthy. “Hey, this stuff has been on the market for years, but now they say it’s healthy so that makes it possible to jack up the price and start mass-producing more varieties of it.” So they start finding more ways to serve us a healthy dose of…BULLS**T! Why do I say that? Because it’s the same way with everything. Some things that are healthy don’t always taste all that great for the simple reason that nature intended it to be natural and not cater to our spoiled ways of making everything that we want pleasurable to include things that are supposed to be ‘healthy’.
Green tea in it’s natural form, brewed and served cold does NOT taste very good, nor does black tea. So manufacturers of the antioxidant rich tea smother out the flavor with high fructose corn syrup. Sugar. I can’t lie. I kind of like the way sweet green teas taste but I don’t drink them unless they are sugar free, like Arizona sugar free green tea . SoBe is one of those that are guilty of sugaring up everything they make that is supposed to be healthy. SoBe’s 20 oz Green Tea packs a whopping 250 calories with 63 g of sugar. That’s about 16 sugar packets per bottle. Would you sweeten your tea at home with that much sugar? Think about it next time you’re in a convenient store and reach for that green tea. Check the sugar and calorie content. You can buy regular green tea bags at the grocery store, brew up your own at home and pack it in a bottle for on the go. Sweeten it with Splenda or not at all. Green tea is kind of bitter the first few times you drink it but you get used. If you’re serious about drinking it for your health then give it a shot.
